Humanities at Central Christian College
Art, Drama and Literature

God is the ultimate creative being!  All people were formed in the image of God and endowed with natural creative abilities that they might glorify God and edify each other.  Yet, because we receive these gifts in our present imperfect state, each gift needs to be nurtured and developed.  Some may say, "Who has time for such frivolous endeavors?  Let's not waste our time!" Bernard Bell would respond to such a utilitarian statement by saying, "...if we turn to God’s self-revelation in Creation, we find a remarkably non-utilitarian God. He places flowers on a thousand hills where no human will ever see them. He oversees the life cycle of myriad stunningly beautiful insects, unobserved by any human eye. He has placed millions of galaxies far beyond the limit of human eyesight, beyond even the range of the Hubbell Telescope. A look at the Bird of Paradise flower or at the peacock should suggest to us that God is extravagant in his creation of beauty and wonder."1

There definitely is a place for the arts in the life of a Christian.  Famous author, Dallas Willard once said, "Sometimes important things can be presented in literature and art that cannot be effectively presented in any other way."2

So, Why Study the Humanities At Central Christian College?

Central Christian College is committed to helping students develop their artistic abilities, deepen their understanding of their art, and encourage them to share their gifts with others.  We do that by providing technical and vocational training for the student, while stimulating and encouraging active participation.

Participation in the arts as a life-long vocation.  And when we talk about participation, we are serious. Incoming freshman are given the same opportunities as sophomore and upper-class students.  It is not very often you will find a school where a freshman can have a lead role in a major production or performance.  With a student enrollment of over 300 students and 3-4 major productions a year, you will find plenty of chances to be involved.

Perhaps your interests do not draw you to the stage, but to other mediums of artistic expressions.  It does not matter; you will find a home here at Central Christian College.  The important thing is knowing you will find a department ready to help you develop an understanding and appreciation of God's magnitude and creative nature through exposure to a variety of artistic styles, as you gain confidence in your God given abilities and talents.
