Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies
Aviation Track
The Bachelor of Science - Liberal Studies Major is a unique degree,
in that you not only
get to develop skills related to aviation, but you also get a chance to
tailor your degree based on your future plans. It is a much more
diverse degree, which can provide you with better
preparation for continued studies or employment. It is through
this degree that you can learn how to make a career in aviation work in
the real world.
How Does it Work?
As you look at major, you will notice that there
are three components, or steps, that allow you to specifically design
your program of study according to your educational needs. Let's
look at
each
one separately.
Component 1 - General
Education Courses
First, is the General Education Courses. Just because you're
going into aviation does not mean you get to skip out of all the basic
stuff. You will still need to take classes like English and
Philosophy, along with everyone else. The General Education
Courses you will need to take are:
- 6 hrs English Composition I & II
- 3 hrs Principles of Speech
- 3 hrs Philosophy or Modern Culture &
Christianity
- 2 hrs Fitness and Wellness
- 1 hr P.E. Activity or Varsity Sport
- 3 hrs Math
- 4 hrs Science
- 3 hrs Personal Finance or Marriage & Family
- 2 hrs Computer Literacy
- 3 hrs History
- 3 hrs Psychology or Sociology
- 6 hrs Bible Survey Course I & II
- 3 hrs Old Testament Course
- 3 hrs New Testament Course
- 4 hrs Humanities
Component 2 - Aviation
Track
In order to receive this degree, you need to choose two tracks. Since
you are
reading this page, we will assume that your first track choice is
aviation. .
- AV 101 Introduction to Aviation
- AV 201 Introduction to Instrument Flying
- AV 102 Private Flying
- AV 202 Instrument Flying I
- AV 203 Instrument Flying II
- AV 301 Commercial Ground Instruction
- AV 302 Commercial Flying I
- AV 303 Commercial Flying II
- AV 404 Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)
- AV 405 Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument (CFI)
- AV 406 Multi-Engine Rating
Component 3 - Choosing
Your Second
Track
Now comes the fun part. What do you want to do with your
experience in aviation? Do you want to run an avionics
business? Then you may need to choose Small Business Management
as your second track. Do you
think you will work as a missionary pilot? Then you may want to
choose Practical Ministry as your second track. Below you will find the
other academic concentrations and the tracks related to each.
Humanities Concentration
(Tracks in Art, Drama, Music, or Literature)
Philosophy & Religion Concentration
(Tracks in Biblical Literature, Practical Ministry, or Applied
Ministry)
Communication Concentration
(Tracks in English, Communication, or Journalism)
Business Concentration
(Tracks in Business, Management, Small Business Management, Accounting,
or
Computer Applications)
Sports Science & Health Concentration
(Tracks in Recreation, Sports/Coaching, Exercise Science, or Sports
Management)
Social Science Concentration
(Tracks in Psychology/Sociology, History/Political Science, Criminal
Justice,
Psychology or Sociology)
