Music At Central Christian College

Music is a language all of its own.  Through it, we communicate concepts and ideas that words would never be able to convey.   Words alone may move the mind, but when combined with music, the result is a movement of the soul.  It is through music that we find the tools to share what only our hearts feel.  It is a tool to express our devotion to God and demonstrate His creative touch upon our lives.

Music mirrors the soul of the church.  Just as the church is one body made up of many individuals, so too, music is an expression of that same unity. One song is the expression of many instruments: cello, flute, timpani, trumpet, bassoon.  Still, in the end it is only one song that is heard. So let us unite our voices (and instruments) in one song, just as we are called to unite our lives as a sacred hymn of devotion to our awesome God.

Why Study Music at Central Christian College?

Music at Central Christian College is viewed as a tool to worship God and edify others.  While excellence in performance is required, performance is always balanced with ministry related goals.  That is one reason why you will not find an elitist philosophy being held by our music faculty.  Still, you must keep in mind that you will be continually challenged to do your best and constantly pushed to new levels of expertise.

Music at Central contains a variety of artistic expression.  From "Bach to Rock" describes our musical style.  It would not be strange to hear cowbells, marimbas, pianos, electrical guitars, synthesizers, and voices floating down the halls of Wesley Black Fine Arts Center.  If you have a musical talent, you can be assured you will find a place to use it at Central Christian College.

The Music Department sponsors many student performances a year.  These performances have included: Concert Band, Jazz Band, Woodwind Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Piano Ensemble, Christian Rock, Worship Teams, Chorale, Concert Choir, Ministry Teams, Musicals, Recitals, Percussion Ensemble, Christmas Vespers, Spring Choir Tour, String Ensemble, and the list goes on.  Recent performances include the musical Camelot and Handel's  Messiah.

The really great part about this is that you can get involved right away.  That's right - even as a freshman you can begin to get “hands-on experience”, rather than having to “wait your turn”, which happens at many larger universities.  Central’s distinctive size opens up the door for you to be actively involved in nearly all our musical venues.  Not only that, but the low teacher to student ratio means that you will receive a personalized education, which will develop your musical proficiency quicker.
