Two Year Career Entry Programs

Central Christian College maintains a number of two year programs in the Science and Math department to provide for the needs of our students.  Students who complete the two year Associate in Arts degree will find an easy transition into the four year Natural Science Major or the Bachelor of Science Liberal Studies Major degree because the general education requirements are very similar.

Biology
Biologists study the many facets of living organisms.  A variety of vocational opportunities is possible with a major in biology.  Positions in laboratory research, conservation, and education are a few of the options available to biologists.  Depending on the student's vocational goals, Central Christian College students can opt for an Associate in Arts transfer degree, Bachlor of Science - Natural Science Major, or Bachelor of Science Liberal Studies major with a concentration in science and math.

Chemistry and Physics
The growing fields of health, pollution control and energy offer the best employment opportunities for the chemistry or physics major.  Interest in mathematics and science, and a desire to obtain advanced degrees, are important to this field. Depending on the student's vocational goals, Central Christian College students can opt for an Associate in Arts transfer degree, Bachelor of Science -  Natural Science Major, or Bachelor of Science Liberal studies major with a concentration in chemistry and physics.

Mathematics
A student entering the field of mathematics must plan on completing four years of college.  Courses at Central will center on general education, four semesters of calculus, and related science courses such as physics, chemistry, and computer languages.  Additional courses are available through the Associated Colleges of Central Kansas (ACCK) Math Consortium.  A shortage of well qualified mathematicians insures available jobs and premium salaries.

Pre-Engineering
A student may begin an engineering degree at Central Christian College.  Careful choice of courses and coordination with the college or university that will grant the final engineering degree is necessary.  An engineering program may take five years to complete, but this depends on the particular field of engineering chosen.

Pre-Nursing
The demand for nurses, especially in the areas of home health care and nursing homes, will continue to grow rapidly.  Nurses need to possess strong communication skills, and be caring and compassionate. Students planning on earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing may begin their training by taking the first two years at Central Christian.  Preparatory courses would include biology, chemistry, microbiology, human anatomy and physiology, nutrition, English, and social science courses.

Pre-Physical Therapy
The majority of accredited physical therapy programs offer master's degrees.  Competition for entrance into these programs is very intense.  A strong grade point average, especially in the sciences, is essential. Physical therapists must be compassionate and have strong interpersonal skills.  A Liberal Studies major with concentrations in Science/Math and Social Sciences prepares the student for further study and for future work with patients.

Other Health Related Fields
Many health related professions are four year programs requiring two years of general education courses with an emphasis on science.  A student interested in one of these professions would transfer from Central Christian upon attaining an Associate in Arts degree.  Some examples of these degrees are Medical Technology and Physician's Assistant.

Education
Students may pursue a career in General Science or Biology secondary education by participating in a cooperative program between Central Christian College and Tabor College.
