What is CCC?
Central Christian College (1884), located in central Kansas, is a distinctly Christian college committed to excellence in education. Central's primary mission is to prepare students to be academically competent, socially responsible, professionally astute, service orientated, and spiritually mature. Central is a small, personal college where professors know students on a first name basis and are involved in helping them achieve their educational goals. Central's student body averages just over 350 students which provides many opportunities for involvement in fine arts, academic organizations and athletics. All classes and campus activities are led from a Christian worldview. It is Central's sincere desire and core purpose to educate and disciple students to become Christian servant-leaders to the world.       

Is CCC accredited?
Central is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (member - North Central Association). In May of 2004, we received a 10-year continued accreditation! This is the highest accreditation given.

What lifestyle expectations are there? We do not require that everyone attending Central Christian College is a Christian. We do, however, expect students to live by certain Christian guidelines/lifestyle while attending Central.  Students are not allowed to consume alcohol, tobacco, or drugs or participate in immoral sex on or off campus.

ADMISSIONS

How do I get accepted? (High School Student)
An official, final high school transcript with graduation date from any high school (public, private, or home) provided the student has a minimum C+ average (2.5 on a 4.0 scale.)  Students whose high school GPA is in the 2.0-2.5 range may also be admitted upon receipt of an official ACT composite score of 18 or higher (860 SAT).  Students whose GPA is in the 2.0-2.5 range but whose ACT composite falls below 18 and students whose GPA is below 2.0 will be evaluated by the Admissions Review Committee and may be accepted on conditional probationary standing and enrolled in prescribed college success courses.

What if I have been to college?
Before being admitted, college transcripts must be on file.  GPA must be a cumulative 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.  A transfer reference is also required for those students who have attended college full time

Application Fee is $20.00

GENERAL

How big is McPherson?
About 15,000. Central is centrally located between Wichita (300,000), Hutchinson (39,000) and Salina (42,000). For those wanting to fly in for a visit, make arrangements to fly into Wichita's Mid Continent or Salina's airport.

Where do students come from?
The majority are from outside Kansas. Usually about 40 states and 5 foreign countries are represented. Hot spots are Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, and Missouri.

What is the ratio of male/female?
About 48% female and 52% male.

What percentage of the students are minorities?
About 25%

Are their specific days to visit?
Yes, we have Preview Days (primarily for seniors) scheduled. They are:

*Presidential/Dean exam dates. We invite students with a 3.0 gpa or above to come and participate.

ACTIVITIES

What sports does Central offer?

Yes

What singing groups are available?
Concert Choir, Chorale and one or two auditioned traveling musical teams.

What bands are available?
Jazz, Pep Band and Concert Band. There are also Contemporary Christian bands available as well.

What drama is available?
Fall Play, Interterm Musical, Spring Play; Drama Ministry Team (Morning Star Review), Drama club

What spiritual growth activities are there?
Chapel, SALT (small groups), Vespers, Dorm Devotions, Prison Ministries, Bible Studies, Bible courses, and informal relationships with faculty, staff and students

ACADEMIC

Is Central on a semester or trimester system?
Central uses the semester (4-1-4) system with a January interterm.

What is the student/teacher ratio?
About 16 to 1.

What is the average class size?
About 20.

Does Central accept a GED?
Yes

Does Central accept a Home Schooling Certificate?
Yes; however, we prefer a transcript with grades.

Does Central accept college classes taken during high school?
Yes, if the college is accredited. Send college transcript.

HOUSING

Can students live off-campus?
Students generally must be at least 23 or married to live off campus. Students may live with immediate family.

Are there Co-Ed dorms?
No.  We have an underclass men's dorm, two underclass women's dorms, and one upperclass dorm with both men and women on separate floors.  Individual rooms and hallways in all four dorms are off limits to the opposite gender, with the exception of special open house hours.  Only certain lounges are open for mixed company.

How many students share a dorm room?
Usually only two.

Does Central offer married student housing?
Yes, but limited.  Contact the Business Office for more information.

SOCIAL

Do you have a dress code or uniforms?
No. However, we do expect students to dress appropriately.

Can students date?
Yes, there are no rules against students dating, on campus or off.

Can students dance?
Yes, dancing is permitted off-campus and is not sponsored by the College.

Is there a curfew?
Yes, for freshman, but only for the first semester. Other students, however, are asked to sign out if they leave for the night.

What lifestyle prohibitions are there?
Students are not allowed to consume alcohol, tobacco, or illicit drugs nor engage in immoral sex on or off campus.  NOTE: The faculty and staff at Central try not to make decisions for students but rather, put them in a good atmosphere and let them make their own decisions.

COST AND AID

How much does it cost to attend Central?
As do most private colleges, Central costs more than most state universities or community colleges, but is much lower than the average private college or university. The tuition, room and board cost for the 2008-2009 school year is $21,500. The average student pays only $8,000 out of pocket per year due to the large number of scholarships and other financial aid available.

Are there scholarships available?
Central has a number of scholarship opportunities available.  Central policy allows the allocation of only one college-administered academic scholarship to a student at any one time. Final allocation is based upon the eligibility that gives the greatest advantage to the student.  Scholarships range from $2,250 to $7,000. If a student attends a Christian high school and has at least a 3.25 GPA, we have a $4,250 Christian Leadership Scholarship available. If a student has a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a composite ACT score of at least 22 or a combined SAT score of 1020, there may be $6,000 to $7,000 Presidential or Dean Scholarship available. (Scholarship information can be mailed.)  Any of the following scholarships are availale to qualifying transfer students.


Is there out-of-state tuition?
No. Cost is the same per year whether in or out-of-state.

What Financial Aid is available?
Besides our college scholarships, there are several types of grants and loans available. A counselor can help you with these questions. Each student applying for financial aid must complete a FAFSA.

Are there on campus jobs for students?
Yes, about one-third of our students have campus jobs.
