Central Christian College of Kansas
A Home-School Friendly Campus . . .
. . . The Natural Transition from Home School to College.
Central Christian College welcomes applicants with a background in
home schooling.
Central Christian College is a private, Christian, residential, liberal
arts college with four-year Ministry, Business, and Liberal Studies programs.
Our enrollment is over 300 students. Because we are a small
college, we feel Central is an excellent place for the home-schooled student
to pursue their college career. A student who is accustomed to the
one-on-one attention received through home schooling may feel lost enrolling
at a larger college or university. At Central Christian College,
the average class size is 15-20 students—which allows the professors the
luxury of more interaction with the students. Central desires to
serve home-school graduates as they often bring positive skills to our
campus such as motivation, responsibility, and moral maturity.
Some indications that Central Christian College is a Home-School
Friendly Campus:
-
Many of our faculty and staff choose to educate their children at home.
- Several current students and alumni were at least partially home-schooled.
This includes eight percent of our Fall 2002 freshman class who graduated
from home school.
-
Listed as a Tier 1 college on Home School Legal Defense Association listing
of colleges by the home school friendliness of their admissions policies.
-
We host an annual spring Home-School Victory Soccer Camp.
-
We have hosted the Kansas State Home-School Basketball Tournament since 2000.
- We have small classes and personal faculty who will help students on an
individual basis.
-
We enroll home-school high schoolers in concurrent college courses for
credit.
-
We have a disciplined and nurturing environment—we want to help you not
only academically, but also spiritually. Please read our Core Values
and Missions Statements.
Academic Preparation and Admissions Requirements
Although Central Christian College evaluates each individual student
for admission and every attempt is made to accommodate the home-schooled
student, the following criteria can be used as a general guideline.
-
Admission to college freshman standing may be granted to the home-schooled
student upon completion of 16 or more units acceptable toward high school
graduation with at least a C average. Central highly recommends among
these 16 units that a student has: 4 units of English; 3 units of
Social Studies, which should include 1 unit of American History and 1 unit
of United States government; 2 units of mathematics; 2 units of science,
including 1 laboratory science course; and 1 unit of computer technology.
-
All students must submit an official transcript of their high school grades
from the appropriate agency or combination of agencies (public school,
private school, home school association, home school.) This transcript
should contain six semesters (9th, 10th, and 11th grades.) A final,
official transcript which includes a graduation date will also be required
following graduation or the completion of the high school course of study.
-
A G.E.D. is not required, but may be used in lieu of a high school transcript.
-
All students must take either the ACT or SAT test. The results of
this test are used for counseling purposes and as part of our institutional
research.
-
Many home-schooled students have also taken college courses. Credit
will be evaluated for transfer upon receipt of an official college transcript.
-
Students whose composite ACT score is less than an 18 and/or whose grade point average
is below 2.5 may be accepted on conditional probationary standing and enrolled
in prescribed college success courses.
Financial Aid Availability
-
Central Christian College offers a wide range of financial aid opportunities.
Students wishing to apply for financial aid should complete the Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available upon request.
-
Home-schooled students graduating with at least a 3.25 G.P.A. (on a 4.0
scale) and a minimum ACT composite score of 19 are eligible for a $4,250
Christian Leadership Scholarship by submitting an Application, an official
high school transcript, and their ACT score.
