Central Christian Selects McNett to Lead the Tiger Baseball Program

McPherson, KS – May 23, 2018 – Central Christian College Athletics Director, Twiggs Reed, is pleased to announce the hiring of Stephen McNett to be the next head coach for the Tiger baseball program. McNett, a native of Daytona Beach, Florida, is a 2012 graduate of Friends University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations and Journalism.

After graduation, Coach McNett jumped head-first into a career in coaching. He got his first head coaching job right out of college at Life Prep Academy, and coached there from 2012 to 2014. While at Life Prep, Coach McNett’s team set the Kansas High School record for most wins in a season, and he coached Jasrado Chisholm, who was drafted out of high school by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

After two seasons in the high school ranks, Coach McNett made the jump into the world of college baseball. He got his first opportunity to work with a college program as an assistant coach at Pratt County Community College. Since then, he has also had stints with Southwestern Assemblies of God University, Arlington Baptist College, and most recently, at Coffeyville Community College. He has also spent the past three summers as the General Manager/Head Coach of the Great Southwest Collegiate League in the Dallas, Texas area.

Coach McNett’s philosophy is “Develop the person. Develop the player. Develop the Program.” He says, “I believe that by developing these young men into quality men, the program and culture will create itself.”  Central’s Reed said, “I am excited for knowledge and experience that Coach McNett’ s brings to the  baseball program as it will help him succeed at making the Tiger baseball program a contender in the Sooner Athletic Conference, and nationally as well, but I am thrilled with Coach McNett’ s desire to grow young men up into solid Christian leaders.”

Having spent some time in the SAC as an assistant at SAGU, Coach McNett is familiar with the level of play within the Sooner Conference. He added, “Coaching in the Sooner Athletic Conference is a tremendous honor and challenge. It is one of the top conferences in the country, so our young men will be pushed to excel spiritually, mentally, and physically to compete every day."

Coach McNett thanked the Central community for the opportunity to be a head coach saying, "I am excited for the opportunity to help lead the CCC baseball program. I want to say thank you to Twiggs, the hiring committee, and the entire body of Central Christian for the opportunity and belief in what we as a team/staff can do for these student-athletes. I am eager to get working with my team and really developing the work mentality, as well as the desire to win. As the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 9:24, " in such a way to get the prize."

He went on to add, “I attribute my success as a coach to the incredible leaders I had the blessing of being coached by: Jake McKinley (William Jessup) and Chris Lewis (Dawson CC).  Not only have my former coaches influenced me, but I have also been shaped by the coaches I've had the privilege of working for, like Barrett Weaver (Arlington Baptist University) and Jake Martin (Coffeyville).  It is my goal to help lead this group of young men in the same manner, helping them develop into future Christian leaders of our world.”

Coach McNett will begin his coaching duties officially on June 1, he is currently looking for a place to live in McPherson, and will move sometime this summer.
