Johnson receives Teacher of Promise award

Central Christian College’s Teacher Education department is pleased to announce the 2016 Teacher of Promise has been awarded to Sarah Johnson.  Miss Johnson completed her student teaching experience at Lincoln Elementary in USD 418 and will receive her Bachelors of Science degree with Elementary Education in January 2016.  The award presentation was held during the 2016 Kansas Teacher of the Year State Awards Banquet at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Wichita, KS on Saturday, November 21, 2015.

About the Teachers of Promise Award

The Teachers of Promise candidates are chosen each fall through the college’s Teacher Education Committee who review all candidates to select the student who meets and exceeds all required qualifications.  Qualifications include letter of recommendation, student essay, target or proficient scores in the Jr. Practicum Evaluations, 3.3 GPA, senior status, and a resume to reflect professional responsibilities and service to the department and the college.  Upon selection, candidates are notified and invited to attend a half-day workshop presented by the current Kansas Teacher of the Year Team, comprised of the Kansas Teacher of the Year and the seven state finalists or Kansas Regional Teachers of the Year. The Teachers of Promise also are invited to attend the Kansas Teacher of the Year State Awards Banquet.

During the Kansas Teacher of the Year State Awards Banquet, each Teacher of Promise is introduced and presented with a framed certificate of recognition by the Commissioner of Education, Dr. Randy Watson.
