Two Lady Tigers Win Player of the Week Honors

Two Lady Tigers were honored this week with player of the week awards, one on the MCAC Conference level, the other received national recognition.

On November 4, the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference announced that Junior Ciara Costello of Central Christian College was named MCAC Women's Volleyball Libero of the Week for the week ending Nov. 2
A native of North Richland Hills, Texas, Costello averaged 7.33 digs per game last week over three conference matches for the Tigers.

For the season, Costello has recorded 508 defensive digs, averaging 5 digs per set. She is number one in the MCAC and 48th in the NAIA in that category.

Costello, and her Central Christian teammates are 9-21 in 2014

That same week, junior goal keeper, Twila Smedley, from Manter, Kansas, was named this week's NCCAA Division 1 defensive player of the week.

Smedley was instrumental in helping Central Christian College finish the season on a three-game winning streak, allowing only 1 goal during the streak. In the final week of the season, the Tiger defeated York College 2-0 and Johnson & Wales University 2-1. In the shutout win over York, Smedley had 3 saves. Against Johnson & Wales, she made 7 saves including arguably her best save of the season to keep the score tied at 0-0. She would've earned her third straight shutout if not for a goal allowed as time expired. She finished with a 0.5 GAA the last week, and a 0.33 GAA the last three games.
