Central Christian College’s athletic program is a very important part of campus life. Athletes in each sport participate in a highly competitive schedule. Each athlete is challenged to train hard, improve skills and to contribute in positive ways to the team. Coaches respect and teach the ideals of good sportsmanship, fair play, honesty and team spirit.
Although Central has had many championship teams and outstanding athletes including All-Region and All-American players, winning is not the only priority.
Central's athletic department endeavors to recruit student/athletes who are open to what Jesus Christ can do in their lives. Those who do not have a personal relationship with Christ are welcome, but need to understand that they will be challenged by Biblical truths and consistent Christian lifestyle standards. The coaching staff are committed Christians who will encourage all to mature academically, physically, spiritually and socially.
Athletic Affiliation
Beginning with the 2002-2003 school year, Central Christian College joined the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Central also joined the Midlands Collegiate Athletics Conference (MCAC). Central also joined the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) in the 1999-2000 school year..
Athletic Eligibility
To be eligible, a freshman student/athlete must meet two of three requirements: 1) 2.0 GPA or above; 2) upper-half of H.S. graduating class; 3) an 18 ACT or 860 SAT.
Athletic Participation
Students serving as members of varsity athletic teams, including the cheerleading squad, must have an up-to-date physical examination and complete medical history form on file in the Student Development office before being permitted to participate in practices, camps, or competitions.
Men's Athletics
Soccer
Varsity soccer has been a strong part of Central's intercollegiate
sports program since 1964. As the popularity of the sport has
grown,
Central has seen continued progress in its soccer team. Our
soccer
history includes back to back National Championships in the NSCAA in
1986
and 1987, as well as regional championships in the NJCAA and regional
runners-up
in the NCCAA. Since the late 1980s, Central has had 40 All-Region
players
and 11 All-Americans. The team trains for the season at Solid
Rock
Ranch in Bristow, Oklahoma, and plays a 17 game regular season schedule
with
post season play in early November.
Basketball
One of the highlights of the sports year at Central is the basketball
season. Central plays an exciting, fast-paced style that is very
entertaining and successful. Central won the NJCAA Division II
Region VI Championship and was the District Runner-Up in 1995.
Central placed sixth nationally in 1996. In 1999, the Tigers
participated in the National Bible College
Tournament.
Tennis
The men's tennis team plays a schedule of matches against other
four-year colleges in the National Christian College Athletic
Association (NCCAA) and the National Association of Intercollegiate
Athletics (NAIA). The fall season consists of moderate training
while the spring includes a lengthened "regular" season which includes
the NCCAA playoffs. In the Spring of 2000, the Tigers' number one
player finished fourth in the NCCAA national tournament.
Baseball
The Baseball Program at CCC is a year-round activity for those men
taking their game to the collegiate level. The 55-game spring
season is preceded by an 8 week Fall Semester practice and scrimmaging
schedule along with an off-season weight-lifting and conditioning
program. The Tigers as of 2006, moved their home games on campus
to the south athletic complex which has become one of the finest
playing surfaces in the state. Coach Jared Hamilton has been at
the helm of the program since 2002 and has been steadily building a
program that contends for post-season year-in and year-out.
Cross Country
Cross country has been a part of the athletic
program for a number of years. Cross country provides runners an
opportunity
to compete against strong competition. A regular season schedule
includes
eight to ten weekend meets at various venues across the Midwest with
participation
at invitationals in Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Missouri and Nebraska.
As
members of the MCAC conference, they participate in the conference meet
and
NAIA regional and national meet or NCCAA national meet if they qualify.
Golf
A practice season of three to four matches is played in the fall while
an extended regular season follows in the spring. In 1996, 1997
&
1998 Central qualified a golfer for the National tournament in North
Carolina.
Women's Athletics
Volleyball
Women’s varsity sports are undergoing a terrific change in the United
States and Central Christian College is keeping pace. In 1994,
the Lady Tigers competed in the National Junior College Athletic
Association (NJCAA) Region VI Championships for the first time in the
history of the College. Central
repeated this feat in 1995.
Basketball
Another product of the growing interest in varsity sports for women is
Central’s basketball team. This program has improved in direct
proportion to national
trends. In 1989 the Lady Tigers finished fourth in the NLCAA
national
tournament. In addition to back-to-back 20 win seasons, the
1993-94
Lady Tigers won the NJCAA Division II, Region VI championship.
Soccer
Central began women’s soccer in the fall of 1988 and became one of
the first collegiate programs in the state of Kansas. Under 10
year
veteran coach Mike Reimer, the Lady Tigers have marked a 95-70-10
cumulative record. During that time the Lady Tigers have had two
7th place finishes at the NCCAA National Tournament and have produced
many All-Conference, All-Region, and All-American players. The
Lady Tigers play
a very competitive schedule including some NAIA Top 25 teams.
Softball
The CCC softball program gives the competitive high school player the
opportunity to play at a higher level of competition. Our team
schedules 28 double-header games in addition to tournament play during
the year. We have a Junior Varsity as well as Varsity
program. Our ladies' conditioning starts in September with a
fall
softball season and runs through the beginning of our spring
season. Our players also have the opportunity to work indoors
during the winter months. Home games are played at the Wall Park
Sports Complex.
Cross Country
The women’s cross country team continues to build after several years
of
non participation. The team competes in eight to ten meets during
the fall, culminating in the National Christian College Athletic
Association (NCCAA) finals. The leading woman runner competed in
the National (NCCAA) meet in the Fall of 2004.
Tennis
The women's tennis team plays a schedule of matches against other
four-year colleges in the National Christian College Athletic
Association (NCCAA) and the National Association of Intercollegiate
Athletics (NAIA). The fall season consists of moderate training
while the spring includes a lengthened "regular" season which includes
the NCCAA playoffs. In the Spring of 2004, the Tigers' team made
an appearance at the NCCAA national tournament in Florida placing
sixth.
Intramurals
The Physical Education Department offers a variety of intramural activities for the entire student body. These range from team sports such as basketball, volleyball, softball, and indoor soccer to individual and dual sports such as badminton, tennis, ping-pong, and golf. The intramural director works with two student directors—one man and one woman. The student intramural directors are selected by the intramural director.
Cheerleaders
The cheerleading squad at Central Christian College is viewed as a student leadership position that makes a positive contribution to the high level of school spirit. The cheerleading coach recruits new students and selects from returning students each year to serve as spirit leaders for all home basketball events. Tryouts for returning students interested in being named to the squad for the following year are held each spring.
Cheerleading is an activity funded similarly to athletics with funds
available for uniforms and camps. Squads are also permitted to
engage in approved fundraising activities to fund additional
activities.
