Champions of Character

Champions of Character Initiative

Central Christian College is a proud and active participant of the Champions of Character Initiative, sponsored by the NAIA.  You can find out more about the initiative by visiting the Champions of Character website.  The goal of the  initiative, is to develop an atmosphere of integrity within our athletic program.  Through awareness, education and community involvement, it is our hope to develop athletes that can be champions of character in the game and throughout life.

Athletes, at Central Christian College are encouraged to get involved in activities that not only challenge their own character development, but also to invest in the community around them.  Here is an example of what some of our athletes are doing:
  • Assisting older individuals with home related tasks
  • Hosting a 12 and under soccer clinic, where character related issues are being presented
  • Spending time with local "needy" children
  • Prison Visitation
Each year, Central Christian College honors an individual and a team that exemplifies the five core character vales of a Champion of Character (see the pledge below).  The 2002 - 2003 individual award was presented to Daryl Elliot.  Daryl is a member of the Men's Tennis team, and served as a manager for the Men's Soccer team.  Over the past two years he has been a Resident Advisor, a job he will continue in the 2003 - 2004 school year.  Daryl is well respected by his team members and by the student body, faculty, and staff.

The team award was presented to the Men's Soccer team.  Coach Ball and his team have worked very hard to uphold the character values on and off the field. During their summer training camp, the team took a day off from practice and donated time to camp to "fix up" some of the facilities.  Through-out the year Coach Ball continually exhorted his men to now only be Champions of Character, but also Ambassadors of Christ.

The Student Athlete Pledge

Each game and practice I participate in will provide me with an opportunity to be a "Champion of Character".

I pledge, as an NAIA student athlete, to accept the five core character values of the NAIA and will do my best to represent the NAIA, my institution, my teammates, and myself by:

  • respecting my opponent, the officials, my teammates, myself and the game;
  •  taking responsibility for my actions in all areas of my life;
  • having the integrity to stand by my word;
  • providing servant leadership where I serve others while striving to be a personal and team leader; and
  • being an example of sportsmanship by holding myself to the highest standards of fairplay.
