Players
Named MCAC ALL CONFERENCE
Central
Christian College soph. catcher, Jake Mays from Colorado Springs,
CO was named to the MCAC All-Conference Baseball 1st team
selected by the MCAC coaches. Mays joins an elect group of 19
players. He led all catchers in the conference with a .980
fielding percentage, only 1 passed ball in 42 games, and threw out
32 runners attempting to steal.
The sophomore captain raised his
average over 40 percentage points going into the last three weeks
of the season while facing the toughest conference opponents and
hit .291 with 20 runs scored, 32 hits, 3 doubles, a triple and a
HR. Mays also led the team with 13 stolen bases, a
phenomenal
feat according to Coach Bob Marsh. "Often Jake would catch
all four games in a conference weekend series and in spite of all
that work behind the plate, he still hit the ball well, run the
bases well and blocked everything in the dirt possible. He had a
dream season both offensively and defensively and this award is a
tribute to how hard Jake Mays works every day!" Mays also is
an NAIA Scholar-Athlete in Cross Country in the Fall on top of
playing baseball!
The Tigers also had two other players named
honourable mention all-conference in freshman 1B Sam Carr who led
the Tigers in hitting with a .308 average and 3 HRs, and senior 2B
Robert Trujillo Jr. who was a mainstay in the infield with a
fielding percent of .967, participated in 20 doubleplays, and hit
.279.
