Some Personal Thoughts
|
|
|
I was born in Long
Beach, CA. It was there at the age of eight, that I found Christ
as my Lord and Savior. After my dad joined the army, we moved
back and forth quite a bit. I attended Los Angles Pacific College
and received my call into the Christian Ministry. On June 9, 1955 I
married Faith Green after my junior year of college. Faith and I
transferred to Seattle, Wa, where I finished my Bachelor's
Degree. From there we went to Asbury Theological Seminary, where
I earned my Master of Divinity.
Our first pastorate was in Yucca Valley, CA. Little did we know that
the next 35 years would take us on a journey and redefine the word
home. In 1963 we were appointed as missionaries to Mozambique,
Africa. In preparation for our work we needed to study Portuguese
and Xitshwa. Our years overseas were filled with rich ministry
and yet at the same time frustrated by civil unrest and turmoil.
This was especially true related to the work God was doing in
Mozambique.
Eventually we ended up back in the USA, where Faith and I answered the
call to pastor the Mapleview Free Methodist Church in Nebraska. Of
course, this was after we had officially retired. After 4 and a
half years of wonderful ministry, we retired again to McPherson,
KS. Six weeks into our retirement Central Christian College of
Kansas asked me to serve as an adjunct professor. So, here I am
enjoying my retirement!
It's funny, back in 1953 I first came to Central as a basketball player
for Azusa Pacific University. Since then all of our children and their
spouses have graduated from Central and now I am teaching here. So my
rivalry is now my reward, and what a rich and wonderful reward it
is. Faith and I are overjoyed to join with others in preparing
young people to respond to God's call upon their lives.
