I grew up on a farm in
South Dakota in the Missouri River valley and
attended a
two room school house for grades 4-8. In high school I
participated in
various singing activities, such as chorus
and ensemble. I attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance
Church (name has changed to Alliance) where I was saved when I was 13
years
old. In the church, I sang in the choir as well as singing many duets
with
my sister.
I attended the University of South Dakota where I met my
husband, Roy, in my sophomore year and his senior year. We married and
moved to
Wisconsin where I finished my degree and both of our daughters were
born.
From there, we moved to Tallahassee, FL where my husband got his MFA,
and I took care of our daughters. We were also charter members of
the
Alliance Church in Tallahassee.
Next, my husband
joined the Civil Service and got a job in Copperas Cove, TX where I
began my full
time teaching career. Next, he transferred to Kaiserslautern, West
Germany
(at that time), where I was hired by the Department of Defense
Dependent School
system. I taught juniors and seniors for five years. In Europe we
traveled as much as we could, visiting the Netherlands five times,
Italy twice, Austria and Switzerland six times, and Spain, Sweden and
Yugoslavia (at
that time) once each. The Lord allowed us to view the Berlin Wall
and go through Check Point Charley to East Berlin.
After returning to the United States, we
lived in the South for seven years before moving to Kansas. A transfer
for
my husband precipitated each move, and at each place I taught in a high
school or middle school. While in Alabama, I obtained my master's
degree
and began teaching college classes part time for a junior college which
I
continued to do in Kansas. The Lord led us to Central where I began
teaching in 1998, two years
after my husband started. At the present time, two grandsons live with us; one is a freshman in college and the other is a sophomore in high school. |
