Alumni Highlights – Mikel T. Golden

Chief Mikel T. Golden Central highlights Criminal Justice Alumni Chief Mikel T. Golden. He is the Chief of Police at the McPherson Police Department.

What would you say to prospective students who are interested in an advanced career in law enforcement and how would you communicate Central as a good fit?

Central Christian College of Kansas gave me a very affordable and easily accessible opportunity to complete my college degrees. I completed my bachelor’s degree in criminal justice while I was a Narcotics Detective. Afterwards, I completed a second bachelor’s degree in business organizational leadership.

At Central, we aspire to provide a very flexible platform to our online adult students.  How were you able to complete coursework, receive instruction, and complete all other program requirements while working a full-time job in law enforcement?

The courses were designed in a way that you could use your real-world experience, combined with the knowledge from the reading material, and theories, to have real debates. Critical thinking was a very big part of both programs.

How has your experience at Central prepared you for a more advanced career in law enforcement?

I highly recommend any officer who wants to grow within their department to continue learning. Central will give you the opportunity to complete your goal quickly, at your own pace, while still having time to work hard and spend time with family. The staff at Central are always willing to help and they make you feel as a part of the family.

My degree from Central was a requirement for acceptance to the FBI National Academy. I believe obtaining two Bachelor degrees from Central in Criminal Justice and Business Organizational Leadership opened doors for me and helped me progress in my career.
