Alumni Update from Wayne Burke

Dr. Wayne Burke, current Superintendent of USD 230 at Spring Hill, KS communicated with Dr. David Ferrell with the following words.

My time at Central was very integral in molding me into the person I am today. I know I left there with a much different attitude and outlook on life (and afterlife) than when I arrived on campus. The relationships, mentorships, and friendships at Central have built bonds that have lasted over 30 years. In baseball and in school, I felt like we were building something when were there.

Maddie Saxton created a memory book for me and kept newspaper and school clippings. She presented the book to me as a graduation gift, and I have cherished the effort she put into it on my behalf.

Dr. Burke attended Central from the fall of 1984 until the spring of 1986. He continued his education and earned a B.S. from Kansas State University, an M.S. from Emporia State University, and his Ed.D. from Kansas University.

Dr. Burke was considered an outstanding athlete and was awarded the Most Valuable Player for 1984-85 and a 2 Year Award in Baseball during his 1985-86 athletic year. He pitched under coaches Don Munce and Hubert Shorb.
