CCCK Tabs Brown for Chief Student Engagement Role

Staff photo Cathy BrownMcPherson, Kansas – Central Christian College of Kansas (CCCK) is pleased to announce that Mrs. Cathy Brown will be assuming the position of Chief Student Engagement Officer. The search committee strongly recommended Mrs. Brown based on her achievements in building mentoring relationships, previous administrative experience, engendered respect from vocational peers, and her ongoing education and research associated with student success.

Mrs. Brown came to CCCK in the fall of 2017, where she was tasked with rebuilding the Education Program. During her time in this position, Mrs. Brown’s work has been exemplary. She has ensured alignment with the College mission, as well as state standards, garnering respect and appreciation both on campus and throughout the state, where she serves as a member of the Kansas Association of Private Colleges of Teacher Education and the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.

Cathy officially began her role as of June 1, 2021, but will continue to be a woman of two worlds as she works through the summer with Mr. Steven Smith, who will be assuming the role of interim Chair of the Education Program.

President Favara said,

While I am sorry to lose such an effective and influential member of the faculty, I am happy to gain an effective and inspiring member of the administration. I believe that Cathy’s extensive investment as an educator is the perfect backdrop for her new position, as we collaborate to enhance the student experience and bolster retention and student success.

Prior to her assuming a position at Central, Mrs. Brown served as the General Director at Asuncion Christian Academy in Paraguay. In that position she served as the senior administrator, overseeing operations, academics, and athletics. With a clear focus on student welfare and success, Cathy maintained an efficient administration, developing a culture that enhanced the functioning of the institution. Mrs. Brown looks forward to combining this experience with what she has learned as a departmental/division chair at CCCK.

In addition to her experience as a senior administrator, Mrs. Brown has over 15 years of service as an educator, with specific achievements in teacher mentorship and student success interventions. In 2018, Cathy was selected to participate in the Kansas Independent College Association Aspiring Leadership Academy. This selective program immerses participants in such facets of college management as budgeting within the broader institutional framework, using data effectively, hiring and faculty evaluation tools, program prioritization, work-life balance, advocacy, board recruitment and relationships, and 13 other key higher education issues. Cathy is also currently pursuing her Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership through Missouri Baptist University, in Saint Louis Missouri.
