CCCK Names McPherson Native Tim Prescott as Head Men’s Wrestling Coach

Tim Prescott

Central Christian College of Kansas (CCCK) is excited to announce the appointment of Tim Prescott as Head Men’s Wrestling Coach. A native-son of McPherson, Prescott has been surrounded by the sport of wrestling for most of his life. As a member of the McPherson community, Prescott wrestled with the McPherson Wrestling and the Smokey Valley Wrestling Clubs before beginning his high school career where he became a two-time State Finalist and a four-time State Medalist.

After high school and a number of wrestling honors at Neosho Community College, Prescott went on to compete at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, where he won the NCAA DII National Championship, after which he was also named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Wrestler of the Year. After completing his undergraduate work, Prescott went on to pursue a Master’s in Sport Performance and Leadership, while he simultaneously served as a graduate assistant for the wrestling program at Northern State University, under the direction of Coach Rocky Burkett. During his time at Northern, Prescott was instrumental in restoring the strength of the program, advancing the program’s NCAA ranking to 17th place. Over the last year, Prescott has served as the head assistant wrestling coach at Cornell College.

When asked about his vision Coach Prescott said: “My vision is two-fold. First, I hope to complete the work on the new wrestling facility, helping advance the role wrestling plays in the McPherson community. I believe McPherson is a special place and with community support, I believe we can truly do something special! Secondly, I will focus on growing the roster and strengthening the depth of our current program, helping, Central Christian become a top competitor in the conference.”

Reflecting on the unique mission of Central Christian College of Kansas. Coach Prescott said, “I was fortunate enough to be raised in a home that put God first. At a young age, I learned to give my life over to Jesus. I think God calls us to use the blessings and talents he gives us to glorify him, and that is what I plan to implement in our wrestling program. We will honor and glorify God, putting Him at the center of all we do so that we are competing for something greater than ourselves.

While in college, Prescott had the opportunity to travel and work with John Peterson (1976 Olympic Gold Medalist – Freestyle Wrestling). Peterson was working with Athletes in Action and convinced Prescott to invest a summer competing in Moldova (Europe), where Prescott was able to compete internationally, as well as learn how to incorporate faith with his sport.

CCCK Athletic Director Kyle Moody, stated, “The Athletic Department is honored to have Coach Prescott to return home and become a member of the Tiger family. His familiarity with the McPherson community, wrestling experience, firm faith, and educational pedigree make him a perfect fit. I look forward to his arrival back to McPherson!”

Prescott will begin his official duties on April 20th, 2020.
