Central Opens New Disc Golf Course

Central Christian College of Kansas is thrilled to announce the opening of its newly constructed nine-hole disc golf course. Thanks to the generous donations of several alumni and friends and spearheaded by the Foundation of Central Christian College of Kansas and the Alumni Board, Central was able to purchase the materials needed for the course, giving students, faculty, and staff an added community centerpiece.

The project went through a series of edits over the past two years to make this fundraiser a reality. John Walker, the Chief Student Engagement Officer and one of the architects of the course commented that,

“Today was an exciting day to be a Tiger. The nine-hole disc golf is officially installed and operational. While there are a few more small items to be added, such as the launching posts, vinyl lettering for the baskets, and the official map to be published, it is operational… and fun! It was amazing to see the Central Community come together for this great project and fund it so quickly.  We are certainly blessed!”

A huge thank you goes out to all the donors who made this disc golf course a reality. In addition to the fundraising efforts, a huge thank you also goes out to the amazing maintenance staff for their work to complete the disc golf installation before the first day of classes.

Mr. Walker, along with Mr. Elijah Barsness (Resident Director and Director of Campus Life) played the inaugural nine holes this morning. Before they began, Mr. Walker dedicated this disc golf course to the Lord and thanked the Lord for His provision. Standing alongside were Executive Director of the Foundation, Dr. David Ferrell, and Vice President of Advancement and Alumni Relations, Dr. Dean Kroeker. Dr. Ferrell had this to say about the project:

“The Foundation and the Advancement Office is grateful for the support of the alumni as we work together to enhance the student experience at Central Christian and assist in fulfilling the mission of the College.”

After the prayer of dedication and thanks, Mr. Barsness and Mr. Walker played the nine holes. By the end of the nine holes, Mr. Walker came out on top setting the school record for the disc golf course at +1.  Mr. Barsness came in a close second.  In addition to the fun competition and fellowship, this disc golf course is also helpful in promoting some of the various components of the CORE4, specifically in regards to strength and health. Mr. Walker says that he logged around 2,000 steps, which equals roughly 1 mile. The course is now open to students, faculty, and staff and a map of the course will be added to the Central Connect App.
