Homecoming 2021 an Event to Remember

Nancy Malone speaking at 50 Year ReunionMcPherson, Kansas – Homecoming 2021 is in the books, and what a weekend it was. On October 1-2, 2021, over 300 alumni showed up to partake in the various Homecoming festivities on the campus of Central Christian College of Kansas (CCCK). Students, alumni, faculty, and staff all joined together for a great time as one big Central family.

Whether it was sitting together in Larry Anderson’s Friday afternoon Acts Class, watching Women’s Volleyball and Coronation in the Jerry Alexander Arena, or walking around campus and bumping into former classmates there were plenty of activities for all to participate in.

This year’s Homecoming came after a rough year and a half of COVID, which caused the 2020 Homecoming to move to an all-online format. The alumni relations department was intent on bringing this year’s event back to campus – and back to campus it came.

One very special festivity that was part of the 2021 Homecoming was the Choir Reunion. With the return of former CCCK choir director, Mr. Tom Seaman, and many former choir members, it was a grand time to hear them sing together during the Homecoming Celebration concert and the reunion Hymn Sing & Dinner at the Opera House.

Other events that took place over the homecoming weekend were the Dalke Drive Dedication, “Late Night Madness” with the CCCK basketball teams, the first alumni and friends disc golf tournament, and various class reunions. There is no doubt these events and many others made this a Homecoming to remember,  as Becky Peterson Chambers (CC ’71) wrote,

It was a wonderful weekend filled with laughing, reminiscing, praying, hugging, eating, and staying up late. Thanks for making the weekend so much fun!

On being a part of Homecoming 2021 and the importance of Central to him, CCCK alumni, CJ Luckey (CC ’10) stated,

The word “home” has a deep nostalgia for our hearts. Some of us have good and bad memories of home, but most of us have a deep longing to be home or to visit home. It’s always a blessing coming back for homecoming. Walking campus reminiscing on the fond memories I have of this place. Seeing the people I love dearly who have invested in my life. Those same people are still investing in students and pointing them to Jesus Christ. I’m thankful for the work God did in me while being at Central. I’m not the man I am today without the work the Lord did in me while being here. This place will always hold a spot in my heart. This place will always be home.

Director of Alumni Relations, Adriane Carr, thought the event was a resounding success and was thankful so many alumni and friends showed up to reminisce and enjoy a great time on CCCK’s campus. She remarked,

It made my heart glad as I watched alumni seeing each other after many years and hugging, laughing, exchanging stories and catching up on life.
