Obituary – Kathryn Martin

Kathryn Martin (Potter)Burlington, Iowa – Kathryn Martin (WS ’62), 79, of Burlington, died at 9:40 AM Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born December 25, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, IA, she was the daughter of Robert and Berta Fae Meehan Potter. On February 14, 1990, she married Donald Lee Martin in Burlington.

Kathryn worked at Midland Community School from 1977-1989, Collins Radio, and Casebine Credit Union.

Kathryn graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1960. She attended Wessington Springs College in South Dakota and Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

She was a member of the Parkside First Baptist Church in Burlington. Kathryn was a former member of the Burlington Art Guild, L.I.F.T. (Ladies in Faith Together), and Disciple of Christ.  She enjoyed art, music, was a seamstress, counter cross-stitch, crocheting, quilting, and needlepoint.  She sang in small and large group choirs, was an excellent marksman, horticulturist, and bird watcher. Kathryn loved spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her mother; her husband of 31 years; two sons, Matthew Patrick (Cami) Brady of Center Junction, IA and Matthew Donald Martin of Oxford Junction, IA; three daughters, Wendy Marie Cassata of Washington, IA, Sara (Anthony) Draegert of Wauconda, IL, and Mindy Kay (Chad) Martin of Monticello, IA; 12 grandchildren, Anthony (Summer) Cassata, Keysha Dixon, Jordan (Luke) Yordy, Megan (Jared) Draegert, Caitlin (Matt) Carson, Molly Brady, Ransom Brady, Joselyn Brady, Trey Brady, Grace Taylor, Connor Martin & Addison Martin; two great-grandchildren, Liana (Kevin) Schimp, & Oralia Cassata; three brothers, Donald Dean (Cindy) Potter of Anamosa, IA, Michael (Mary Lou) Potter of Naples, NY, Jerry (Mary) Potter of Cedar Rapids, IA; one sister, Karen Yvonne (Darrell) Arvidson of Laporte, MN; many nieces and nephews; three brothers-in-law, Duane (Cindy) Martin of Springville, IA, Lindsey (Betsy) Martin of Monticello, IA, Criag (Judy) Martin of Cedar Rapids, IA; and one sister-in-law, Carol Burns of Cedar Rapids, IA.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Potter, grandson, Michael Jack Taylor, and sister-in-law, Terri O’Donnell.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Parkside First Baptist Church.

The memorial service for Mrs. Martin was held on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Parkside First Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Price officiating. Memorials have been established for Parkside First Baptist Church and Great River Hospice.
