Tiger Basketball Sweep the Aggies
The Tiger Basketball teams hosted the visiting Aggies who have struggled in the SAC. Both Tiger teams know they needed to get the victory and pick up wins in the SAC. Both teams were currently #10 in the SAC standing and need to move to #8 to get into the SAC Tournament.
The Lady Tigers got the ball rolling early as they would take a quick 17-12 lead after the first quarter. After gaining the early lead the Aggies would fight back a little and cut the Tigers lead to 34-32. After halftime the Tigers would try to make adjustments on the boards and keep the Aggies from getting second chance points and create more opportunities for themselves. Aggies would start to get hot and make a couple of 3’s to take the lead and at one point, the Tigers would find themselves down by 7. The Tigers would show their resilience and get back into the game and get the back within a point before the 4th. The Tigers would be down 51-52 to begin the 4th and they would continue their hot streak that they had to end the 3rd. Tigers would start to force turnovers and converting those turnovers into points. The Aggies hot shooting would start to slow down mostly because of the defensive presence of the Tigers and Tigers would knock down 3’s and free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach. The Tigers would take the win from the Aggies and win 81-72.
Tigers would be led by Holly Golden with 22, Kassidy Forsberg 17, Tania Lowe 14, Alexis Boyd 9, Jordan Dixon 7, Zenith Hernandez 5, Cheyanne Marshall 3, Maria Cabello 3, and Ciera Carter 1.
The Lady Tigers improve to 5-9 (2-5) and will take on visiting Wayland Baptist this upcoming Saturday.
The men would try to get the get the sweep at home and the Tigers would get out to quick start and would find themselves up by 15 early. The Tigers would lost Isaiah Rivera early in the 1st half and this would stun the Tigers a bit and the Aggies would take advantage and cut into the Tigers lead. Tigers would let the Aggies get within a possession of the game, but would finish of the half off with a 34-29 lead. Tigers would come into the 2nd half with a chip on their shoulder and wanting to prove that they could hold a lead and get a SAC win. The Tigers would cause many turnovers and mistakes from the Aggies. They also would spread the floor well and create good opportunities on the offensive side and start stretch the lead and keep the Aggies out of the game. Aggies would try to make a late push, but the Tigers would have an answer and would shut the Aggies down and never let them have a chance to make it close. Tigers would close out the game with a 81-64 win.
Tigers would be led by TJ William & Ben Glover who both scored 16, Darrell Bryant 11, Byron Staten 10, Torrey Henry 9, Isaiah Rivera 9, Andrew Epps 5, Andy Pompa 3, Dominique O’Connor 1, and Bengy Diatta with 1.
Tigers will get their first SAC win and improve to 8-7 (1-6) and look to continue the momentum this weekend against visiting Wayland Baptist.
