Alumni Obituary – Juanita “Corky” Flood

Corky FloodMcPherson, Kansas – Juanita “Corky” Marie (Smay) Flood (CC ’52), 87, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at McPherson Hospital. She was a legal assistant for the law office of Cassler, Johnson & West, and also worked as a secretary for Excalibur Production Company.

Juanita was born on April 28, 1934, in Ottawa, KS, the daughter of Richard Lincoln and Beulah Belle (McDaniel) Smay. She graduated from Central Academy, McPherson in 1952. On November 1, 1953, Juanita was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” E. Flood in Ottawa, KS. He preceded her in death on January 19, 2004.

Juanita was a member of McPherson Free Methodist Church and the Biluminous Sunday School Class, the Red Hat Society, and the Happy Handful Club. She was actively involved with the legal assistants’ association on the local, state, and national levels. She served on The Cedars Board of Trustees and assisted with the planning of the Wellness Center.

Survivors include three sons, Mike Flood of Wichita, KS, Scott (Georgia) Flood of Newton, KS, and Corey (Ida) Flood of McPherson, KS; son-in-law, Randy Clark of Wichita, KS; sisters-in-law, Maxine Spence and Donna Janzen, both of McPherson, KS; brother-in-law, Jim Flood of Splendora, TX; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces & nephews and extended family.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Robbin Clark; two sisters, Jeanette Croucher and Lynn Shutt; and grandson, Cameron Clark.

Memorial donations may be given to the McPherson Free Methodist Church or The Cedars Wellness Center in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
