Ingram Named Teacher of Promise
McPherson, Kansas – The Teacher Education Department at Central Christian College is pleased to announce the 2018 Teacher of Promise award recipient is Olivia Ingram. Olivia is a senior education major at Central and has grown and raised in the McPherson community.
The awards presentation was held during the 2018 Kansas Teacher of the Year State Awards Banquet at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Wichita, Kansas on Saturday, November 17, 2018.
Last May, Olivia had the opportunity to visit Chaing Rai, Thailand where she was able to experience firsthand working with English language students from various parts of Asia. She also learned that even the best laid out plans do not always turn out the way one would expect: you have to learn how to be flexible, take one day at a time and trust that the Lord has you covered. This experience helped Olivia realize that no matter where you are, kids are kids and it is our job as teachers to love on them and teach them skills to be successful in life.
Cathy Brown, the chair of the education department said, “Olivia is a talented young lady who loves teaching children and is eager to learn new things. I have had the pleasure of watching her blossom over the past year and a half into a risk-taker. This is evident by her willingness to travel alone to Thailand for an adventure like no other! She is dedicated, hard-working and will be an asset to her future employer.”
Ms. Ingram will be completing her student teaching experience this spring at Central Christian School in Hutchinson, Kansas.
About the Teacher of Promise Award:
The Teacher of Promise is chosen each fall through the college’s Teacher Education Committee who review applicants to select the student who meets and exceeds all required qualifications.
Upon selection, candidates are invited to attend a half-day workshop presented by the current Kansas Teacher of the Year Team, comprised of the Kansas Teacher of the Year and the seven state finalists or Kansas Regional Teachers of the Year. The Teachers of Promise are also invited to attend the Kansas Teacher of the Year State Awards Banquet.
During the Kansas Teacher of the Year State Awards Banquet, each Teacher of Promise is introduced and presented with a framed certificate of recognition.
