Luckey Named Outstanding Young Alumni Award

During the various Homecoming festivities, one very important, annual event is the awarding of the Outstanding Young Alumni Award. This award is designated for any alumni who graduated within the last 15 years who embodies and possesses Christ-like character, demonstrates civic involvement, and exhibits a self-sacrificing lifestyle. This year’s recipient of the award is 2010 graduate, Mr. C.J. Luckey.

C.J. Luckey is a national touring Hip- Hop Artist, Youth Pastor and Motivational Speaker who invests his talents, effort and energy into edifying the younger generation.

As a Youth Pastor, C.J. serves at Freedom Fellowship Church in San Ange- lo, TX. He is also heavily involved in his community serving in many capacities with the goal of making a difference and improving the lives of others, while improving himself and serving as a role model to those around him. While attending Central Christian College of Kansas, he played basketball from 2006-2010. In addition to making contributions on the court, C.J. met his beautiful wife Samantha of 7 years. They now have two beautiful daughters, Olivia Joy (3 yrs old) and Harper Love (9 months).

C.J. is the CEO and founder of C.A.P.S. which is an acronym for Celebrating All Persevering Students. C.A.P.S. is a non-profit organization with the goal of changing the culture and mindset of students around the world. Over the past two years he has traveled around the country to numerous elementary schools promoting the growth mind- set through hip-hop and motivational speaking. Through the C.A.P.S. movement C.J. presents a powerful message of perseverance and hope that encourages, empowers and inspires students and educators inside and outside of the classroom.

As a Christian, C.J.’s relationship with Jesus Christ permeates everything he does inside and outside of the church. He has always proclaimed that “when you have a gift or something that can change or impact the lives of many people, you have a responsibility to bring it to life. God is the giver of all good and perfect gifts. I want to steward the gifts He has given me well and point the people I encounter to Him”.

We’re proud to have alumni like C.J. out in the world making a difference for Christ! We believe C.J. embodies the character and lifestyle that pertains to the Outstanding Young Alumni Award and congratulate him on receiving this achievement.

Any member of the Central community, alumnus, staff, student, or friend can submit an alumni for nomination of this award. Nominations are accepted on a rolling basis and are reviewed by the Alumni Association Board every April for presentation the following October.
