Online Students Nominated for Alpha Sigma Lambda Scholarship

Written by Rose Fitch, CCCK Assistant Registrar

McPherson, Kansas – The Sigma Phi chapter of the Alpha Sigma Lambda Society (ASL) is pleased to announce the nominations of Adrienne Edwards and Jeremy Gonsalves for a scholarship opportunity through the national ASL office. Each chapter may only submit two students for consideration and we consider Adrienne and Jeremy to be excellent representatives of the values of Central Christian College of Kansas (CCCK) and the work ethics of our non-traditional students. We wish them luck as their applications are reviewed by the national scholarship committee.

Adrienne Edwards - Sigma AwardAdrienne Edwards is a Junior in the online Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice program and has a 3.96 cumulative GPA. Her nonprofit, “Hope for the Homeless and Wounded Warriors,” has been operating for 10 years in Colorado, providing support to the homeless, veterans, and first responders. She is currently working as a full-time nanny for three children. Her goal after graduation is to start a career with either the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service or the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Sean Wallace, CCCK Online Instructor, says,

“I had Adrienne in my Criminology class recently and I was impressed with her passion, and focus on the material and criminal justice in general. With her proactive attitude towards achieving her goals in my class, I am sure she will achieve her college and career goals with the same dedication.”

Jeremy Gonsalves - Sigma AwardJeremy Gonsalves is a Senior in the Online Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration Program and has a 3.94 cumulative GPA. He has a decade of healthcare experience in Kansas, including several years as Admissions Supervisor for the McPherson Center for Health. He is currently managing the care of his four children at home, two of whom have special needs. His goal after graduation is to obtain a Master’s degree and eventually become CEO for a small health clinic or hospital.

President Leonard Favara (CC ’89, ’91) had this to say,

“If you have the opportunity to interact with Jeremy, you will be impressed with his ability to communicate with candor and depth of insight. I have personally witnessed his willingness to set aside his own agenda in order to ensure that the goal of the greater good is reached. He portrays an attitude of inclusivity; bringing out the best in those around him.”
